Lessons

» Lesson 1: Understanding information technology requirements and IT infrastructure complexity
The proliferation of technology complicates the midsize IT infrastructure, which drives up both the cost of IT and the amount of disruptive downtime. Here we identify the problems, describe the first step toward solving them and explain how to produce an IT business plan.
Lesson 2: The case for core IT services
Every midsize business requires three core IT services: messaging, security and management. In this lesson, we'll make a case for these core services, then take a look at how Windows Essential Business Server addresses them directly.
Lesson 3: Assembling a midsize IT core infrastructure
To support growth and core services using affordable business solutions, a business often needs to move from what it has to what it needs. This lesson covers the type of IT used in business, paying particular attention to advances in servers and storage and the need for integration.
Lesson 4: Selecting the right business server platform
Selecting from among the many different server options and information technologies comes down to understanding a variety of factors, including performance, reliability, total cost of ownership, integration, the limitations of information systems and the trade-offs involved.
