Servers 101 Many small- and medium-size businesses (SMBs) often outgrow simple sharing of resources with networked PCs but don't know when or how to upgrade to a more robust system. In this class, you'll determine if your business is ready for a client/server network. You'll also learn how to select and configure a variety of servers to provide file and print, database, email and web services.

» Lesson 1: Why do you need a server?
This lesson will introduce you to client/server networks and cover the components: workstations, servers and network operating systems. You'll take a look at retail and open source operating systems and learn which servers are popular with SMBs and why.
Lesson 2: Selecting a server
In this lesson, you'll learn how to determine which software, hardware and backup solutions meet your needs, and how to make smart purchasing decisions. This lesson will focus on hardware by HP and operating systems by Microsoft®.
Lesson 3: Configuring file and print sharing
File and print sharing is the most common server role in most organizations. In this lesson, you'll learn how to configure a file and print server. You'll also understand the benefits of having a file and print server on your business network.
Lesson 4: Configuring a database server
In this lesson, you'll learn what a database is, and why you need a server to host a database on your network. You'll also learn how to configure a database server and understand the benefits of managing a database server in your own company.
Lesson 5: Configuring an email server
This lesson will describe how various email servers interact to send and receive email. You'll learn how to select an email application for your business, configure an email server and secure the system you put in place.
Lesson 6: Configuring a web server
Websites are an essential part of doing business today; some companies wouldn't exist without them. In this lesson, you'll learn what a web server is, how it works, how to configure one and how it can benefit your company.

He currently serves as Chief Information Officer of the Brand Institute, a Miami-based marketing consultancy.
