Lesson 1 posted

Posted: Jun. 18

Lesson 1 is now available. In this lesson, you'll find out how hardware, BIOS (basic input/output system) and the operating system work together, and what can happen if they don't. You'll also learn which tools give you system information and repair your PC.

To complete the lesson, click Lesson from the course's main page under the heading for the desired lesson. When you are finished reading the lesson, complete the Assignment and Quiz, also linked to from the main page of the course.

If you have any questions about the lesson, please feel free to post them here.

Best wishes,

Customer care is located at

Your antivirus program will tell you if it is up to date or not.

question? when I try to check my system information by going to start/all programs/accessories/system tools/system information, I get no response from the computer. It acts like it is going to give me the info, then nothing happens. Any thoughts on this?

Hello Faithe,

I have a question, I just took lesson one today and I got one question wrong. I have a business repairing computers and the question I got wrong, was the one where it states where should I first look for a computer problem in an order of .I said look first in the application software then, look in the operational software then the bios ( this was the wrong answer) The right one said I would look at hardware first, then work my way up...in my experience most issues are with the application software or setup within the application, or conflicts, and then the OS is damaged and I almost never have to look at bios as and issue..Can you explain the answer that is the "correct answer" to the quiz..Thanks Eric

Hi Eric, the best explanation is in the lesson itself, which explains why starting at the hardware level is the process being taught in this class. Of course you may have your own opinions on what is "best" but the quiz was written to correspond to the method taught in the lesson.
