Lesson #3 Introduction and Information

Posted: Jun. 22

Teaching text features and working with images

Welcome back. In Lesson 2, you created your first web page, defined a simple website and learned how to manage site assets. You also learned about the importance of web page accessibility requirements for people with sight and hearing challenges. In this lesson, you'll learn how to work with text, lists, images and video, beginning with text.

Now for the beginnings of your web site design building blocks some of which are:

Page Properties
Inserting and managing text
Importing text
Using the Property Inspector
Inserting special characters (copyright, trademark, etc)
Using the spell checker
Creating lists
Working with and formatting tables

We'll complete this lesson with understanding how to use images in your web site. Images can make a site sing!

You're getting there! Make sure you take your time and go at your own pace. These are pretty substantial lessons and you're doing great.

:)

Best regards,
Marc

Hi Marc,
So I'm working through these lesson using CS4 and trying to take into account the changes but I am stumped as far as the table is concerned.
I have not been able to figure out how to change the text attributes for the list in the bottom cell that doesn't affect the heading cell. Can you point me in the right direction?
Thanks
Susan

Hi Marc,
I have the same problem, I'm working with DWCS4, and in my property inspector are missing the font, style, size and color tools and I can't change any text.Is there a way to put them in my property inspector or any idea how to change texts.
Thanks

Hi spodiak,

I didn't forget about you.

I didn't have access to my CS4 version but will very shortly to see if I can understand your question.

Sorry for the delay. I hope to respond very soon.

If anyone has any suggestions in the meantime, you're welcome to help out your fellow classmates.

Hi Susan and Velislava,

Make sure you have the Properties Inspector visible at the bottom of your workspace. It's very similar to CS3. You'll see a series of tabs below and you'll want to click on Properties. Then, click on HTML just under that for the classic properties like CS3.

See my screen shot attached.

Best regards,
Marc

Marc,

I am having some problems on the following:
In Assignment instructions
#4 - After filling in the background color. What is the next? Should we leave it or should we click apply or okay or both before proceeding to the adding table.

This need to be clarified in your lesson instruction in the assigment. I have it figure out later on and was able to proceed... but you need to redo your instruction... my suggestion

my dilemma now is?......
I am having some issues with creating a table and using the property inspector in CS4. I follow the instruction but it seems like the results of the action was not the same as the figure 3-11 final table example in your step by step instruction.

Also, when working on instruction #5 where you have to change the background color on the top row... it doesn't tell you where to click or where to go from there. I have it figure out by playing the property inspector and there is this bg button where you have to put the #FFFFFF - Suggestion: Again need clear instruction to be able to accomplish the assignment.

Adding and modifying text:
Instruction:
#2 Should be in property inspector click page properties to change the font size and font color and hit okay.

Adding an image placeholder
I do not see any botton where I can use to align my image - please let me know where in the CS4 property inspector botton. Now my Property inspector is hiding how can I make it to appear in the lower bottom of the page - Please help... I hope you can help me...

Hi Marc,
I had it figure out. I google on how to solve my problem regarding how I can make my property inspector to appear again.

Here's a link:

I am done on my assignment #3 and I have my photo on it too in replacement to my image placeholder... I am making progress... Off to assignment #4.

Tsoncheva: In CS4 version the font, style, size and color tools. You have to click the
Page properties and change all of the above re:#'s and hit apply and ok to make the changes. You cannot see it in the property inspector but you have to click the page properties.
I hope this helps!
Good luck.

Hi Modela,

You're a star! Thanks for helping out. I posted a screen shot in another topic showing the slight differences in the Properties Inspector and how to expand to show all settings.

You're doing great! Thanks for sharing with your fellow classmates. That's what's so great about our friendly message boards. Your suggestions have also been noted.

Thank you!

:)

Best regards,
Marc

Hi Marc,
I have CS4 full version. I am working on this assignment, but when I change the font size and color for the top portion of the table it automatically changes it for the rest of the table. I do have my properties at the bottom of my screen with the HTML & CSS tabs. What have I missed in the instructions?
