More reading on WPA/WPA2

Posted: Jul. 31

Here are some good reading materials on the Wi-Fi Protected Access protocol versions 1 (WPA) and 2 (WPA2):

1. Maxi-Pedia WPA and WPA2 (Wi-Fi security tutorial Part 2): covers WPA-802.1x and WPA-PSK, compares both to WEP, discusses set up and configuration, and more
http://www.maxi-pedia.com/WPA+WPA2+WiFi+protected+access

2. Lars Strand 802.1X Port-Based Authentication How-to
Talks about 802.1X, 802.11i, EAP, and RADIUS, then describes how to set up FreeRADIUS and Xsupplicant, and more
http://tldp.org/HOWTO/8021X-HOWTO/index.html

3. DAvid Strom (a friend and favorite author) "Tutorial: How to set up WPA2 on your wireless network" ComputerWorld 8/24/2006
http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9002706/Tutorial_How_to_set_up_WPA2_on_your_wireless_network_

4. Wikipedia: Wi-Fi Protected Access

5. HTCC "WPA2 Encryption Basics"

Another good read on WPA/WPA2 is the "Crash Course" from Network Computing entitled "The ABCs of WPA2 Security." You may be able to access this PDF download directly at http://i.cmpnet.com/nc/1702/graphics/1702crash_file.pdf; if that link doesn't work for you, you'll have to visit http://www.networkcomputing.com/wireless/crash-course-the-abcs-of-wpa2-security.php and register with the site instead.

Enjoy!
