Hello Diane,

I enrolled in the online class to get a basic knowledge base for an interview process I am involved in. I have been in enterprise sales for AT&T Mobility for 9 years, and have taken the last 5 years off to be home with my two small daughters. I am now interviewing with Global Crossing, for an enterprise sales role where I will be tasked with identifying opportunities from a networking perspective from competitors if theirs like Level 3, Qwest, AT&T and Verizon etc.....What I am hoping to gain out of this class is a core knowledge base of networking, but also by learning this information, being able to identify revenue opportunities within selling a network. I am hoping this class is a good start of the concepts, but if you have any further suggestions as to sites, and or selling networks strategically at a corporate level, I am very interested in that. In other words, what kinds of questions does one ask and to whom within an organization, to know where there even are opportunities? I would imagine the whole concept of convergence as an industry to IP based networks is where those identifying questions would lie correct? Am I on the right track? I am not interested in becoming a Systems Engineer, as there is a team behind me in place, but I do need to know what to ask to know about identifying opportunities. If you have any insight as to where I may be directed, that would help as I go through this course. Thank you! I have never taken a class online, so I am looking forward to digesting this info. at my own speed and pace, and appreciate your availability and any response or suggestions you may have.

Thank you!

Hello, I am happy to see this class. I coordinate staffing for various IT rollouts. Many of them involve networking. I hope this course will help me understand the "bigger picture" when corresponding with my staff about a networking project.

Suzanne,
I think taking a class like this is a good idea. You will have a hard time identifying selling opportunities if you don't know how things work. The kind of questions to ask and to whom will vary. The people answering the questions may not have the athorization or the buying power. Convergence can offer opportunites but that may depend on the organizational structure.

Welcome Rick, Wayne and Joseph!

Wayne,
Here is a "tutorial" from http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-25998-file-sharing-between-xp-and-vista that can help you:
XP machine has not set the permissions in a way that Vista can copy from.
1. Go to the folder (not file) that stores the files that won't copy (eg. the yellow My Documents folder).
2. Right click on the folder and select PROPERTIES.
3. Select the SECURITY tab.
4. Select ADVANCED (bottom right).
5. Make sure you select the PERMISSIONS tab if it isn't already selected.
6. Click on Allow _ Everyone _ Modify (the lines with MODIFY on, are the ones that are preventing the files from transferring.)
7. Now that the Allow _ Everyone _ Modify _ line is selected, click EDIT.
8. In the list of permissions in the next window, you'll see some UNSELECTED boxes under the heading ALLOW.
9. SELECT each of these to give full control to the EVERYONE name.
10. Click OK
11. Place ticks in both boxes at the bottom left of this window (Advanced Security Settings window)... Box headings are ...(INHERIT FROM PARENT THE PERMISSION ENTRIES and REPLACE PERMISSION ENTRIES ON ALL CHILD OBJECTS)
12. Click OK
13. Click OK
Now the XP machine will give full rights to the VISTA machine to copy files over.
My VISTA machine has File Sharing switched on. To check this select CONTROL PANEL, then select NETWORK AND SHARING CENTRE. Under this window you can turn on a number of actions including FILE SHARING (it should be ON).
Hope this helps.

Joseph,
The way class works is:
1. Students read the lessons, do the assignments, and take the quizzes when each lesson is posted.
2. By saying a lesson is posted, it means that, on the web page that lists all of the lessons, assignments, and quizzes, the links to the lesson and its corresponding assignment & quiz are available
3.You can click on the words "lesson", "assignment", and "quiz" to access them. You can access each lesson as many times as you want to once it becomes posted until the class is ended. The same is true for the corresponding lesson & quiz. You can take a quiz as many times as you want to.
4. Complete each assignment (marked as "Completed" after you click on the button that says you have completed the assignment), and get a grade (percentage of the number of questions answered correctly) for each quiz.
You can take any quiz as many times as you want to once it has been posted until the class ends. The only grade recorded is the grade you got on the last time you took the quiz.
5. If you have read all the pages of a given lesson, completed a given assignment, or taken a given quiz and the appropriate information ("Completed" for lessons and assignments" and "Grade" for quizzes) doesn't show up on the web page that lists all of the lessons, make sure that you click on the refresh/reload button of your web browser to ensure you are looking at the most current version of that web page as stored on the computer supporting these classes and not at the cache that your web browser uses where the cache is stored locally on your computer.
