antivirus diabling while loading programs

hi i just finished lesson 3 & done the quiz one of the questions was about disabling antivirus software
while installing new applications ive always had my antivirus on to detect suspect applications so its not loaded on my computer usually i get a warning
of suspect file & how i want to proceed or file autromatically quarintined, in those cases i usally cancel instilation & wipe all files for it,
so i dont know if i agree with the correct answer to that question
it seems safer to leave it on for your virus softwrae to detect any viruses & not allow it on your computer
rather than let it run only to fix it or wipe it when its causing problems
& if you really want to continue laoding it, you can research the software & creator for more information on the suspect software & get a better idea weather you want to load it or not at your own risk
im no exspert i would really like your input on this subject faithe & any other opinions of my classmates thanx

The proper procedure (recommendation) is to disable the auto protect on your AV program. That being said, I rarely do and have rarely if ever had a problem.
Secondly, I rarely download & install software without first checking it out amongst other things...checking reviews. I also make sure I download from reputable sites and double check to make sure it is the correct site I'm downloading from.
I also save the file to a specific folder and scan it before I install.

Hi axman777

I couldn't help but start laughing when I started recollecting on my "rarely if ever had a problem" ..
it's true, however, certain printer software did require me to disable the AV to install properly.

That being said, I doubt that you nor I will do so on a regular basis. I was scratching my head trying to remember the rare incident that required me to disable it. Then I started laughing.

PS. one thing that is not funny is when you don't follow the manufacturers recommendation - you better know how to stop the corrupted install and delete all (temporary)setup files or you are going to have one heck of a time getting everything back to normal.

Or, follow the manufacturers recommendation and disable your AV program and get the desired device installed and working properly.

hi mike327 thanks for your input, in the next lesson
it shows you how to set up a restore point befor you add new software or make changes so you can restore back to that point before you added software or mad changeds if anything goes wrong
also you wanna know whats reslly funny im now doing course in vista tuneup (same is this course but for vista) they have the same question in the quiz also about disabling av softwaRE BUT THE ANSWER IN THAT QUIZ IS NO same question different answer
i dont understand this??? faithe could you help answer this question thanx

Really! Now that is funny and certainly requires an answer, which I don't have. Like I mentioned (as you probably agree) my rule of thumb is if it won't install properly without disabling the AV program, than I will disable it, otherwise, I'm not & that includes when running Windows Vista.

what was the explanation on Vista quiz when selecting "no" to disabling AV Program?

Explanation in XP:
Some antivirus software falsely detects an installation program as a threat and doesn't let it run

i copied & psted this straight from the quiz
i dont get it
how can one answer be yes & one no
regardless to say i got one of the answers wrong in one of the quizzes which ticked me off
because i used the same answer cause it was the same question

And still waiting for answer from faithe
