multitasking set up question

Is there any way to change a preemptive to a cooperative multitasking in HPUX 11.11? I too often get hung processes that will not die without kill -9. I dislike using it and leaving the structures behind.

My resources canot answer the questions without a lot of additional information. They believe that there are 2 issues. The multi-tasking and the hanging of processes.
