Adding Rows and to multiple charts

Posted: about 27 days ago

I need help w/ adding rows to more than 1 chart on different pages. is there a way to enter it once and for it to translate to the rest of the templates? This is a "pre-made" business plan and there are not enough lines for the services provided, and that links to yearly, and 2 other pages. Does any of this make since?
PLEASE HELP!!

Hi BarberMan,

I'm sorry, but the workbook you attached doesn't match up to the problem you proposed, as all the data are on Sheet 1; and if you insert rows on the same sheet, Excel will adjust formula references.

If I've misunderstood your question, please ask it again and give me more details.

Thanks for posting.

For some reason if you add a row or a Product_Service_07 it will not add to the rest of the charts on the sheet. Is there a way to add Product_Service lines to all the different charts at the same time? For example, if you type in a word into the yellow of forecast/consecutive months it translates to the rest of the document right? BUT, if add a row to the sales is in yellow, and if you try and add a Product_Service nothing translates to the rest of the document... Also, it does not go on to the yearly chart on another page of the workbook. Does that help?

I'm sorry it's hard for me to explain this.. let me know if I can be even more specific.

Thanks.

I think we're talking at cross-purposes here, about two different things.

This lesson is about multiple pages in a workbook. The workbook you uploaded has all the data on one page. To illustrate what the lesson is about, I've taken the Sales block and moved it to a sheet of its own, labeled "Sales". You can view that sheet by clicking on the tab at the bottom left of the window. I've done the same with "Cost of by unit", and the sheet tab is labeled "Unit_Cost"

Notice please that the formulas work across sheet boundaries. Excel made all those adjustments, and I added a blank row before Row 6 on the Unit_Cost page, which Excel corrected for, too.

You can insert rows across multiple sheets, by selecting all the sheets you want to add rows to, and adding a row to the one you happen to end up on. That's how I got a blank row before Row 4 on both Sales and Unit_Cost. I selected both sheets, inserted a row on Sales, and the insertion happened on Unit_Cost, too.

Let me know if that helps.

WE ARE SO CLOSE!!!

First of all thank you for taking the time to help me with this, i thought i was gonna shoot myself there for a minute... HA!

So back to it... I now understand how to get it to add on multiple sheets. However, is it possible to insert rows simultaneously within two corresponding charts on the same sheet? For example the 2 charts on sheet 1. You will notice that I added 2 lines on sheet one in yellow. Also, you will see that i have labeled the first line PRODUCT_SERVICE_01 ON ALL SHEETS, if you go to the Cost of Sales and click on that first line you will see that it reads =PRODUCT_SERVICE_01 in the formula bar. However, where i have typed NEW LINE does not translate to the rest.

thanks.

Hi Barberman,

Yoou can add multiple rows to a single sheet. You should select each row which you want the new row to precede. Once you've done that, you can insert new rows. However, they will all have the default formatting, and you will have to add content and formatting individually.

Hope that helps!

Out of curiosity, why not do these changes one row at a time?

The reason I'm trying to do this is the "Consecutive Months" PRODUCT_SERVICE_01 thru PRODUCT_SERVICE 06 translates to all of the charts on a single page, and to other pages. When I say PRODUCT_SERVICE I'm referring to the First chart on sheet 1 in the formula bar in the drop down window. What i can't figure out is how to add a PRODUCT_SERVICE. SO, when I add a line to any other charts I do not have a formula to add in to that line so that it copies from the "Consecutive Months" chart. I have about 35 services to add, and doing that multiple times in multiple locations is what trying to avoid. You have actually done an amazing job at fielding all the questions, this one is the only one that I don't get. Did you see the example that I added to the sheet?

thanks,

nEil

Hi Neil,

Maybe I'm dense, but I don't see what the problem is. When you insert a line, Excel does not copy the formulas or functions to the inserted line.

Rather than inserting a line, try copying the line right before the blank one you inserted, then changing the item and whatever else is different.

Will that do it?
