Welcome to Protect your PC from spam, spyware, and viruses. Security is a big
umbrella that covers everything from access controls to zero-day exploits. An
important subset of security -- probably the most important for home and home
office users -- is protecting against malicious software or
malware.
This includes viruses, worms, Trojans,
adware, and even spyware that tries to monitor your every keystroke. This
three-lesson course will help you understand exactly which malware threats
you need to protect your computer from and what it takes to do it. You'll
also get step-by-step instructions for securing your computer to eliminate
spam, spyware, and viruses and keeping your PC and software up to date.
This course is geared toward individuals who want to protect their personal
computers from spam, spyware, and viruses.
Here's what to expect in the lessons:
-
Lesson 1: An overview of spam, spyware, and viruses explores general
security threats, and then focuses on spam, spyware, and viruses.
-
Lesson 2: Protect yourself with spam blockers and spyware removers
shows you how to use antispam and antispyware tools, configure Windows
Firewall, and gives you a plethora of tips on safe computing practices.
-
Lesson 3: Virus protection basics walks you through the basics of
antivirus software. You'll learn how to install and update antivirus
software, perform a full system scan, and keep your system in good health.
In addition to the lessons, be sure to complete the assignments and quizzes.
When you're finished with those, visit the Message Board. It's the perfect
place to discuss course topics and swap questions and comments with other
students and your instructor.
Take a few moments to meet your instructor and fellow students on the Message
Board -- your virtual classroom -- and let them know a little about you.
Now that you know the general layout of the course, let's get started with
the topics in Lesson 1.
